this version of DREAMING OF (below) was recorded at my buddy McHanks 50th birthday party... i was asked to play. i said sure. if that’s what ya want...sad songs at a birthday party? sounds like a dream to me.
speaking of dreams. i just love how dreams work...u know...how they turn everything upside down...surreal. and then there’s the the element of pure realism that somehow makes you think that the dream is actually real life… and that life IS the dream. i mean its just...its impossible to differentiate sometimes...really. which is which?
this performance (btw..captured by a field recorder) incorporates field recordings...so try to figure that one out. field recordings are always helpful. i use em often...creates a world where the song can live. where the listener can live too. at least for the moment.
in the recording (below)...i hear.. i can hear the wind..other conversations. children laughing. and it sounds like the guy singing...he’s singing the song to the cars...just flying by.
its like he’s standing on the side of the freeway...singing sad love songs. sounds like a dream.
